No surfing experience required - you just need to stand in the surf and help people with a disability onto waves and back onto their boards if they fall off. Plenty of fun. And there should be a chance to try riding a few waves yourself. Just turn up around 9 on Saturday morning at Collaroy Beach between the pool and the Surf Club on Saturday morning. www.disabledsurfers.org Grade: Easy to exhausting but exhilarating

Canyon: Kowmung Gorge, Morong Deep section

Visitors Welcome
Grade:
Medium / Hard
Duration:
2 days
Leader:
Stephen
Contact Leader

Area:
Kanangra
Maps:

This spectacular section of the Kowmung River is an overnight bushwalk/canyon trip with a few short abseils. It features impressive pink granite sections and great scenrery, in some lovely remote wilderness. It's a long trip and a bit of a workout, but worth it. We will leave on Friday night and car camp near the start of the walk, then on Saturday descend to the Kowmung River next to Morong Falls. We then follow the river downstream camping along the way and eventually exit up Hanrahan's Ridge. The slog back up to the car(s) has a surprising opportunity for a refreshing dip in Hanrahan's creek halfway up. You will need a wetsuit to help protect from scrapes as well as keeping warm, a harness for the short abseils and overnight camping gear. Make sure your overnight pack is watertight as you will need to use it as flotation for a few long swims. Don't make plans for Sunday evening as we will get back pretty late. You will need to be reasonably fit and comfortable boulder hopping with an overnight pack.
